Our Team
Anjali Mavi
Anjali came to England from India 18 years ago. A passionate community leader, radio presenter, and creative facilitator, Anjali is the Co-Founder of the BPC Indian Community.
Anjali holds an MBA in Marketing and Human Resources and a Bachelor’s degree in Arts. With a strong background in administration, recruitment, and welfare, she has worked extensively with diverse communities, women’s groups, and international professionals, helping them access opportunities, build confidence, and feel empowered.
Anjali is also the founder and leader of a women’s Indian dance group with over 40 members who perform across Dorset and Hampshire, representing Indian culture at community festivals and cultural events. Through dance, she provides a space for women to express themselves, showcase their talents, and celebrate cultural pride.
Deeply committed to social causes, Anjali works closely with numerous charities and community organisations across Dorset and Hampshire, supporting initiatives related to domestic violence awareness, mental health, cultural inclusion, and refugee integration.
Poonam Paranjpe
Poonam is originally from India and relocated to the United Kingdom 21 years ago to pursue her second master’s degree. Professionally, she is a Special Educational Needs Practitioner, Educator, and Community Connector with an academic background in Clinical Psychology, Public Health, and Health Promotion.
Over the past 15 years, she has been deeply involved in community development and engagement initiatives, working passionately to build stronger, more inclusive communities.
Poonam is also one of the founding members of the largest Indian community organisation in the region, which is dedicated to organising inclusive events that celebrate cultural awareness, unity, and diversity. She strongly believes that education is the cornerstone of personal growth and holistic development.
Beyond hers professional and community work, she has a love for cooking and dancing, which bring creativity and joy into her everyday life.
Ramesh Lal
Born to Indian parents in Kenya, Ramesh Lal emigrated to the UK at the age of 11 with his family and was raised in the Midlands. He pursued a career in optometry, studying in Glasgow before eventually settling in Bournemouth.
Until recently, he operated a social enterprise project in Kinson, Bournemouth, dedicated to community support. Passionate about cultural and social engagement, Ramesh is one of the founders of the BPC Indian Community Association. What began as a small weekly Bollywood music broadcast on local radio six years ago, has since flourished into a vibrant community organization, offering social, cultural, and educational activities.
Deeply connected to both his Indian heritage and British identity, Ramesh takes pride in being a British Indian, working to strengthen community ties.
Abhishek Jhawar
Abhishek Jhawar (Abhi) is one of the co-founders of the BPC Indian Community, where he actively drives cultural events, networking initiatives, and programs that bring the Indian community closer together.
With a strong background in business leadership and technology, Abhi combines professional expertise with a passion for community building.
Outside of his professional and community work, he’s also DJ Abhi UK, creating unforgettable music experiences that celebrate Indian culture and connect people through rhythm and celebration.
Jitender Mavi
Jitender, fondly known as DJ Mer, was the driving force behind the original “Music Lovers of Bollywood” group — the initiative that eventually evolved into today’s vibrant BPC Indian Community. His passion for music and culture laid the foundation for what has become a thriving network of professionals, families, and friends celebrating Indian heritage in the UK.
Professionally, Jitender works in Investment Banking with HSBC as Senior Director, bringing a deep understanding of finance and technology. Whenever there’s a technical challenge or a need for expert advice, he’s the one quietly working behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly. He’s our go-to tech expert, problem solver, and a constant source of practical wisdom for the community.
Beyond his professional life, Jitender is full of energy and creativity. He’s an amazing Bhangra dancer, a passionate biker, and a cricket enthusiast, always ready to jump in and support the team during community events, especially our charity cricket matches.
